Michael Weston has been an LIV Accredited Specialist in Family Law since 1999. He has also been a Member of the Australian Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators since 1995. Michael is a trained Collaborative Lawyer registered with the Law Institute of Victoria.
Michael completed a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne in 1978 and was admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1979. In the early years of his career, Michael practiced as a sole practitioner in Blackburn South. In 1987, Michael founded Perry Weston Lawyers with John Perry (retired).
In 2004 Michael became a member of Victoria Legal Aid’s panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers and has acted for the interests of children in their parents’ family law proceedings for over 15 years.
Michael has practised extensively in all areas of family law. He has particular interest and expertise in complex financial disputes, including where companies and trusts are involved. Michael appears frequently at private mediations, informal roundtable conference at hearings at the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court.
Michael has also practiced extensively in the areas of liquor licencing, sale and purchase of hotels and motels, and sale and purchase of business.
Away from the office, Michael is passionate about travelling, drinking exceptional wine, improving his golf handicap and spending time with his family.
